This collection of works are miniature versions of the 'Sekimori-ishi' (a quiet boundary) made by Chiba artist Takuho Kataoka.
Traditionally used in Japanese tea rooms and gardens, designed to be placed at the entrance of shops or homes as a charm to ward off evil spirits and create a protective barrier. All stones used are natural. While they have been carefully cleaned, they have not been carved, shaped, or otherwise processed. Each stone is meticulously wrapped in fine leather.
The stones are collected along the coast of Ibaraki Prefecture, and during the artist's travels to other beaches and rivers in Japan. Every piece is unique and one of a kind.
