This work is by Japanese artist and potter Sumiko Aoki. Living in the pottery town of Shigaraki, east of Kyoto, Sumiko has been working as a potter for over 30 years.
Her work is high fired and food safe, and she uses a variety of clays from the Shigaraki region as well as glazes and stains that she makes herself with her own recipes.
Sumiko’s work is filled with her imagination and poetry, birds, clouds, trees and flowers. Her strong style has developed over the years but the sense of whimsy has remained.
This collection of work has been created for her first international exhibition. Paper boat press is so honoured to host it.
The works can only be shipped within Australia and will be sent in the weeks following the close of her exhibition on April 12.
